Overview and Benefits

NTAC Training – Level 1 & 2

Designed for today’s environment in which time is at a premium and flexibility is a must, this 2-part training program combines the best of both online and in-person (live or virtual) learning. Teams are qualified to begin using the National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) model – created by the U.S. Secret Service and the National Threat Assessment Center – after completing both Level 1 and Level 2.

National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) Team Training
NTAC Level 1 Training

NTAC Level 1 Training

Style: Asynchronous, online

Duration: 4-6 hours, at your own pace

Scope: Participants will receive an in-depth presentation of the NTAC program. Learners work independently at their own pace on their own schedule to complete 5 modules narrated by Dr. Marisa Randazzo.

Objectives: Participants learn the process of identifying a student of concern, screening the case, gathering and analyzing information, assessing the student, and managing the student. At the conclusion of Level 1 (including an exam), participants are qualified for NTAC Level 2 Training.

NTAC Level 2 Training

NTAC Level 2 Training

Style: Synchronous, in-person or virtual workshop conducted by qualified NTAC trainers.

Duration: 4 hours

Scope: Participants work together in teams to apply what they learned in Level 1 through a series of case exercises using the NTAC model. Cases become increasingly complex and require careful analysis and teamwork.

Objectives: Teams will know how to apply the NTAC model to a variety of situations with a high degree of classification accuracy. At the conclusion of Level 2, teams will be prepared to use NTAC in their schools.

Style: Asynchronous, online

Duration: 1 hour, at your own pace

Scope: The “NTAC for Law Enforcement” course provides law enforcement officers with an opportunity to learn about behavioral threat assessment, the National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) model and their role on a multidisciplinary threat assessment team. It also helps to ensure compliance when working with juveniles.

Objectives: Participants will leave with an understanding of the NTAC threat assessment model and how it is used in school settings. Participants will also understand their unique role on a multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment team and will be able to better collaborate with schools when it comes to threat assessment.

Marisa Randazzo, Ph.D.

Dr. Randazzo is a social psychologist and former CEO and founder of SIGMA Threat Management Associates. She is an international expert on threat assessment and violence prevention. Before creating SIGMA, Dr. Randazzo served for 10 years with the U.S. Secret Service, most recently as chief research psychologist, and she has co-authored several leading books on threat assessment.

Dr. Randazzo worked alongside our development team to incorporate the NTAC methodology into our Behavioral Threat & Suicide Case Management software. Her direct involvement has ensured fidelity of the process and provides access to specific guidance throughout the system. Dr. Randazzo also worked directly with our curriculum team to create the NTAC Level 1 training available through Navigate360.

Margaret H. Coggins, Ph.D.

Dr. Coggins is the CEO and founder of M. H. Coggins & Associates, LLC, a security and management consulting firm. She brings more than 30 years of specialized experience in risk prevention, threat assessment, behavioral analysis and change management. Dr. Coggins advises businesses, corporate clients, schools and institutions of higher education on developing violence prevention programs. Prior to her consulting career, she served for nearly 20 years as the chief of the Behavioral Research Program for the U.S. Secret Service.

Dr. Coggins worked alongside our curriculum team to create Navigate360’s NTAC Level 2 synchronous training, which is focused on the implementation of threat assessment programs. Her depth of experience enhances the training with realistic simulations, practical exercises, case studies and school-based threat scenarios to ensure mastery of the learning objectives.
